It occurs to me that I see all kinds of threads about 'hackin' or upgrading a Mac that is 8 or more years old so that it can run with the latest software.

It's interesting because these machines are still working well enough to want to do this to.

How many threads do you see about PC users wishing to do the same?

    Food for thought.

Have you ever looked at the location file that saves on your PC? If so, can you tell me where iTunes saves it?

    Thanks

I could be wrong but I think it's bundled within the backups from your iPhone. I've never seen this supposed file so I wouldn't know how to access it specifically. I'm sure someone else here might have some better info on this.

Lance has said he'll retire or has even retired before I think, but coming out of retirement 'just to p*ss them off' is a bit lame.

Well, I don't think he'd go to that much trouble just to taunt the French media...If he does race I think the reason will be because that's what he does, and he doesn't want to stop.

Although, maybe it would be better for him to start competing in other Tours like the Giro d'Italia - he's already put his stamp firmly on the Tour de France.

PS. Don't diss MJ - you run a good chance of being struck down.... ;)

LOL, I never was much of a basketball fan but it was sad to see such a legend fade away like he did - it was just too hard to let go.

Drupal for me as well. We've created prototype web sites with all the bells and whistles (points, badges, rules, social media, forums, inbox, etc.) in next to no time. We were also able to create custom modules that tied into very regimented systems.

I haven't had a chance to look at 7 yet.

    Question:

Should a mac pro server have less speed and more grunt, whereas a workstation have more speed and less grunt?

    Thoughts and feelings on it

( I have to deploy some osx servers but a master workstation does a huge amount of work, so trying to spend the cash best)

It's best to have both more grunt and speed for either :)

Otherwise it depends on the applications you use, if your apps take full advantage of multi-core/parallel processing than you would gain more from
dual procs at lower speed than one at high. For servers it's always high i/o, multiple requests and threads, so the more cores and RAM the merrier.

coming from someone who listens to music almost constantly, i have to disagree. i have a 20+ GB library and i make playlists based on the entire library. in other words they wouldn't fit on a nano. i like hearing a mix of my favorites along with new stuff.
All that music has gone to your head. :p

Both Ipods serve different needs, so I am not going to elaborate into it since it's been written to death. For the OP, the nano is a big leap forward from his shuffle and I see portability is especially important to him. Yeah, yeah, some will argue the regular iPod is portable, but that argument is pretty lame when it's taken on a treadmill.

Would that OP need more space in the future, sure, but that doesn't mean he'll need all the songs at his fingertips at once, unless he likes to have his pants drooped to his knees. 1000 songs will provide over 3 full days of music, thats 72 hours in geekspeak. And probably of that, 100-200 or so are songs he'll want to listen to more than once.

It's getting louder because Skype is a CPU-intensive program, which causes your processor to heat up. The noise you hear are the cooling fans. Any video chat program will do the same thing.

Its now 9.50 and the queue is forming well infront of the Apple store, touchwood. I have heard rumours abound that white models are limited and iPad stock isn't as many here as the bigger london stores, so if your planning to be a late comer cancelled your meetings, leave work early or just cry off ill, because your going to be waiting in line a long time and your going to be very angry if stock has gone. people started turning up near 6.30am and the line is getting bigger.

No. I think the 1Ghz is the better deal.

I really like the value of the 867- finally a non-crippled Pro machine at $1699 or $2699 in Canada is great. I'd wait until the next upgrade to even consider the top of the line.

Just to alleviate everyone's concerns, this issue is NOT present in the Panther preview. I tried setting a 9-character password, and the login window did not take the 8-character version.
