I have a few months left of .mac and have began switching everything over to other services. The .mac mail is just unreliable and slow for the price. The new web page looks nice but I am sure it will be as slow as the other services.
I now use GMail for Mail and use Picasa for photo hosting. It has great iPhoto intergartion and the premium service is like 20 bucks a year.

great, now Toast can concentrate on compatibility issues on the DVD-R side... i've had nothing but problems with my Plextor 716A (DL) and I can't burn higher than 2x without underrun errors on either my new MBP or the Plextor. Different media hasn't helped.
That's odd, my friend is using, well was, a 700Mhz G3 iBook with 640mb RAM and the same Plextor 716A FW drive which can burn at 16X :cool:

How about getting two notifications. Try telling me what the first one was? That's right, you will have no clue. Try using Android or WebOS for about 10 minutes and you will realize how obtrusive and useless notifications are in iOS.

You're right this isn't the portable media market - those devices are primitive compared to what's being offered here and yet the heavy weights were NEVER able to even dent THAT market. You would think the likes of SONY, HP MOTOROLA, M$SOFT and all the other consumer electronics giants, with all of their resources, could come up with something smart enough to compete with the iPod over the years, right?
We pretty much knew Sony would fail, they're the ultimate balldroppers. They refused mp3 for as long as humanly possible, instead trying to peddle advanced MiniDisc players with USB2, years into the iPod era. Sort of a repeat of the Betamax vs VHS war back in the 80s. When they eventually caved, they introduced some butt ugly, purple, blobby mp3 players nobody wanted. Now with PS3 they're even losing a market they completely dominated, they're getting pummeled by Xbox 360 and the technologically inferior Nintendo Wii. I bet they'll somehow manage to drop the ball with Blu-Ray, too. I never understood Sony, never will.
M$ entered the game way too late with Zune, and with this DRM quirk the Zune is doomed. It's not even out in Europe yet. Allegedly it won't even accept 3rd party software, yet businessmen will want to sync it up with MS Exchange/Outlook or Lotus Notes, and they'll probably want to snap in their TomTom or Wayfinder GPS module too. As of now, the gateway for all things iPhone is iTunes, and they're kidding themselves if they think corporate customers will trust a damn music jukebox with their mail, calendar and contacts. And if kids can't cram it chock full of Java games they won't want it either. So the market position really isn't anything like they have with the iPod. Market share is everything. Look at the Palm - say what you will about M$ but PDAs with their mobile OS were superior to Palm in so many ways it's insane, but noooooo, people just had to stay with the Palm, just like they'll stick to their Treo even when iPhone can cook breakfast for them.

$75 for a website template?? Doesn't sound like your charging nearly enough money. That should be closer to $400 IMO.
When I pay for logo design or a website, I pay by the job. I usually get a quote before we begin. I paid $100 for a logo design.

I guess I have to look at as many pricing sources as possible and and try to distill some figures? I have the "Graphic Artist Guild" handbook, but those prices are through the roof. I imagine they're for seasoned professionals working for major clients. Thanks again!

I have heard of the 2TB limit per drive before. I cannot confirm this 100% though as all my drives are less than 2TB. I have 3.5 TB total but it consists of 3x 1TB and 1x 500GB.
I think 2TB drives are a great option for you. They can be had for as little as 75-80 each these days and 4 of them would give you 8TB in your file server. Not too shabby.
I myself plan to buy a couple 2TB drives soon as I am running out of space even with 3.5 TB.
Yeah 2Tb are the way forward for me but I would have liked some 3Tb drives in the future as my 1.5Tb drives only have about 100Gb left. One is my iTunes and the other is its backup. I'll have to look into raid setups to see if I can expand the size that way. Never mind though.
I'm wondering how many drives I can get into the space where the CD drive cage is? I know its deep enough as there is a cage with 2 underneath it. I reckon about 4-5 drives.
In the meantime I bought a little gizmo so I can put 2x 2.5 inch drives in 1 5.25 space. Will make one the system drive and the other its time machine so I can use the 4 main caddies for 3.5 inch drives. might do the same above and use a firewire dvd drive.
I'm chasing as 2 Sata port card as well :D

Charge more so you won't have these type of "clients."
Not sure about design, but for photography, when you charge over $1000 (I charge more) per day, you only deal with professionals. ;)

Word is that this is a really really basic functionality intended for data and not meant to be any kind of HD video type of software.
This is however the first step to getting HD discs authored on the Mac.
Right now the only real HD authoring options each cost over $50,000 so if Apple is planning on getting an HD version of DVD Studio pro this would be a start in the right direction.
