Art from Derek Hess...

Original by Derek Hess on left... tattoo artist unknown on right.

"In 1993, while still booking bands at the Euclid Tavern, Hess’ flyers caught the eye of Marty Geramita, who suggested that Hess turn his flyers into a business venture. In the years immediately following, Hess, with Geramita as his manager, garnered the attention of countless bands as well as both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the infamous Louvre in Paris, who both have Hess’ art in their permanent collection.

In addition to posters for bands such as Pantera, Thursday, Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam, Hess has also created CD covers for bands like Motion City Soundtrack and Unearth. He has also been featured on television show and in magazines - MTV, Fuse, VH1, Alternative Press and Juxtapose as well as many others.

More recently, Hess started a clothing line, Strhess, as well as Hessfest and the Strhess Tour, a collaboration of music and art that features bands such as Thursday, Shadow’s Fall, Stretch Arm Strong and Taking Back Sunday. "

"Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart,” Alicia Keys [VIDEO]

The new video of Alicia Keys is out. Watch it here: she turns into a purple Superwoman with a broken heart. The song is excellent, as usual. Keys has always been very secretive about her love life until she was accused of breaking the marriage of rapper Swizz Beatz and singer Mashonda earlier this year (see picture below).

Sophia Fresh, the new TLC?

We love What it is by Sophia Fresh (see video below). It's not a brand new single but it's edgy and different from what we hear every day.

The trio from Houston were on the soundtrack of Step Up 2 The Streets with Lives in Da Club and they also launched a single with their producer T-Pain called Superbad.

Keisha Buchanan forced out of the Sugababes

Keisha Buchanan announced that she was leaving the Sugababes, the UK’s most famous girlsband, against her will.

It is said that Keisha, 24, has been accused of bullying bandmate Amelle. A statement on her Twitter reads: “I may come across as a hard nut sometimes, but I'm actually really sensitive and it destroys me to think people see me as the longest standing member and assume that I'm the b***h who causes people to walk, and it's totally untrue and unfair.”

Buchanan was the last original member still in the band. She created it 11 years ago with high school mates Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy.

She will be replaced by 21 years old Jade Ewen who reresented the UK at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow and came fifth – the UK’s highest position since 2002.

When a relationship ends

Kerry Washington perfectly translated the difficulty to deal with the overwhelming memories of a past relationship in 'I Want You', the video she directed for Common. We love the song too...

African secret to grow hair

Do you know why women in Africa wear braids most of the time? It's because braids are the most effective protective style.

The Crown and Glory Technique is based on the idea that braids helps grow hair when they are done properly (ie not too tight). Braids are a protective style that avoids daily manipulation and breakage. They allow you to give a break to your hair. In the Winter, they also protect hair strands from cold air

See how braids helped these women grow their hair to massive lenghts in a few months with these before / after pictures: http://www.growafrohairlong.com/claudine.html

Before Obama...

This post will be controversial but before Barack Obama, another black man gathered huge crowds and delivered powerful messages to the whole world.

Michael Jackson. His songs were all about "keeping the faith" (Keep the faith, Dangerous) and "making that change" (Man in The Mirror, Moonwalker).

I grew up with Michael, among other artists, and even though I couldn't understand his lyrics because I didn' speak English at the time, I could see the videos.

Compare his lyrics with what kids hear today! Of course there are currently some talented artists who have a lot of interesting things to say. But they're not mainstream and I wonder what (added) values the others bring to the young audience.

Here's a comparison:
